Scholarship Details

The Dawanda Griffin Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to empowering students who exemplify her commitment to community service and academic excellence. This non-renewable award is paid directly to the recipient's institution."

    • $1000 to be awarded anually to the most deserving applicant.

    • Award must be used for school related expenses ( e.g., tuition, books, fees, housing, etc.)

  • Who Should Apply?

    • Must be a resident within the state of Mississippi.

    • Minimum 2.5 GPA or above is required.

    • Open to all Majors/Fields

    • Financial Need

    • Application opens: January 2026

    • Application Deadline: April 2026

    • Applicant Notification Date: Mid May 2026

  • Applicants for The Dawanda Griffin Memorial Scholarship Fund will be judged on:

    • Academic Success: Good grades shown by transcripts, 2.5 GPA, or class rank.

    • Community Service: Active volunteering that supports the scholarship’s goals.

    • Leadership: Experience leading in school, community, or activities.

    • Financial Need: Priority given to those who truly need help.

    • Personal Statement: An essay explaining goals, reasons for applying, and how the scholarship will help.

    • Recommendation Letters: At least one letters from teachers, mentors, or community leaders vouching for the applicant.

    • Alignment with Dawanda’s Mission: Support for the fund’s values and goals.

    Applicants must meet all requirements and send all materials by the deadline to be considered.
